Not Guilty Verdict, All Counts
Name of case: Commonwealth v. April N. Barnes Case number: 97-CR-1754 Jurisdiction: Jefferson Circuit Court Judge: Honorable Ken Corey, Circuit Judge (ret.)
April Barnes was an employee of a suntan company. A customer of the company took her $10,000 engagement ring off and left it in the booth after she finished tanning and exited the business. Ms. Barnes took the ring to her home, where she kept it for more than a week.
Officers with the Louisville Metro Police Department went to Ms. Barnes' home where she surrendered the ring to them. She was indicted by a Jefferson County Grand Jury for theft and subsequently went to trial in Jefferson Circuit Court. After a three day trial, we were able to convince the jury to acquit Ms. Barnes on all charges.
