Whistleblower Cases
Whistleblower actions, which are generally brought under the Federal False Claims Act, impose significant liability against companies and individuals who defraud federal governmental programs. When many people hear the term "whistleblower," they think of defense contractors who are allegedly defrauding the federal government. The False Claims Act is broad enough, however, to include physicians and other health professionals who bill Medicaid and Medicare after seeing patients and prescribing unnecessary pain medicine, back braces and other durable medical equipment (DME).
When a nurse or other person files a False Claims Act against a physician employer they stand to receive a portion of any money recovered if the United States Attorney's Office is able to secure a judgment against the physician or other contractor liable for fraud. Individuals who are aware of federal program fraud should contact Cox & Mazzoli so we can advise you accordingly.
