Scott C. Cox was able to persuade the United States Attorney's Office not to prosecute his client, Dr. Russell Bessette, a former executive at the University of Louisville. The FBI investigated whether Dr. Bessette had spent federal money on his private company, Health DataStream.
The investigation was lengthy and thorough but Dr. Bessette and his attorneys were always confident he would not be charged because he did not violate any federal statutes or even commit any unethical conduct.
